If you live in Cincinnati, you may not see a lot of Lamborghinis, but they're out there. Lamborghini was officially founded in 1963, but the man behind the company was in business before then, making tractors of all things. Ferruccio Lamborghini wasn't happy with sports cars of the time, especially the Ferrari. He thought he could do better, so he took some of his money and went to work creating the Lamborghini car company.
It wasn't until the Miura came out in 1968 that the company really began to take off and gain worldwide recognition as one of the manufacturers of fine sporting automobiles. The gas crisis of the 70s hit the company hard, though, and little by little the man who had built the company had to sell all his shares. Soon after, Lamborghini actually declared bankruptcy. The 80s saw a comeback, though, with a big interest in Cincinnati and elsewhere for high-end sports cars. In 1987, Chrysler bought Lamborghini, although this only lasted seven years.
In 1994, the company changed hands once again, being bought by Mideast investors. They didn't do much better with the brand, though, because there wasn't a lot of selection for vehicles, which made it hard to keep a steady flow of money going into the company. In 1998, Volkswagen became the new owner of the Lamborghini brand, adding it to their stable of other high performance cars. (Maybe they should have sold the company to someone in Cincinnati?)
